Back-to-back IGT Tour success for Roelofsz

BOKSBURG, 13 May 2015 – Bryandrew Roelofsz shut out any doubt about his return to form when he closed out a wire-to-wire victory in the IGT Tour’s Autumn Swing at ERPM Golf Club on Wednesday.

The overnight leader remained unchallenged on a blustery day at classic Boksburg layout and claimed a six stroke victory on 12-under-par 204.

The 23-year-old Edenvale golfer, who won the BDGA Academy Classic at Eagle Canyon a fortnight ago, put together the week’s most impressive performance with an opening eight-under-par 64 and completed his start-to-finish victory on the country’s premier development Tour with two further rounds of 70.

“I feel pretty excited about this victory, because it was tough out there, especially on the back nine,” said Roelofsz.

“Actually, the weather was pretty exhausting over all three days and to come through with this trophy and a win is a pretty awesome feeling.”

Roelofsz carried a three stroke lead into the final round and laid down the gauntlet with four birdies over the first nine holes to open up a daunting lead.

“The back nine was a whole lot tougher to negotiate in the wind, though,” said Roelofsz, who dropped shots at 10 and 16 and double bogeyed the par-three 12th.

“I drove the ball in the rough at the 10th and caught a flier that overshot the green. I had about 25 meters to the pin, so I opted to bump-and-run the ball close to the hole and made the putt for bogey.

“I over-clubbed at the 12th and caught the lip of a bunker at the 16th, but I managed to box some long birdie putts at the 13th and 17th to limit the damage.”

In the end, the bogeys didn’t matter much, as recent Pro Squad Classic champion, amateur CJ Levey (70), 2015 Sunshine Tour Qualifying School winner Hennie du Plessis (70) and seasoned professional Ettiene Bond (71) shared second a distant six strokes back.

The Sunshine Tour’s Toto Thimba, an IGT Tour winner in 2014, claimed sole fourth on 211 with a 69.

“The first victory was definitely important to me after six months away from the game, but this one is even more special,” Roelofsz said.

“To go wire-to-wire says a lot about the state of my game and my mental focus and patience. I’m really pleased that I could prove this week at the win at the BDGA Academy Classic was no fluke and I am not a one-day-wonder. I dedicate this win to my dad, Bryan, who is also my coach at The GolfSpecialist, and all the other people who believed in me.”
