Ford runs up IGT Cape double

Durbanville_AdrianFord_papersDURBANVILLE, 13 August 2015 – Adrian Ford delighted the home crowds by cruising to his second IGT Cape Tour victory at his home course on Thursday.

Ford steadily plotted his way to a three under 69 in testing conditions at Durbanville Golf Club to secure a two stroke victory on 14-under-par 202.

Recent Westlake Classic champion Heinrich Bruiners raced to a share of second with a six under 66 to tie joint overnight leader Eric van Rooyen, who closed with a 71.

Ford and Van Rooyen began the final round tied for the lead at 11 under, but Van Rooyen pulled one stroke clear at the turn after reeling in three birdies.

Bruiners, five off the pace at the start of the round, pulled within striking distance with five birdies.

Van Rooyen and Ford both birdied 10, but while Ford negated a pair of bogeys at 16 and 17 with a brace of birdies, Van Rooyen dropped shots at 13, 16 and 18.

Bruiners also birdied 11 and 15, but bogeyed the final hole to join Van Rooyen, while Ford drained in a 25-foot birdie putt at 18 to seal the win.

The Durbanville golfer, who won the Milnerton Classic in June, was pleased to get the job done.

“I am so relieved that’s over,” sighed Ford after collecting the R10,000 winner’s cheque from The House of Machines.

“It was a really, really tough day at the office and I don’t know how Heinrich was able to shoot six under, because the conditions were really tough.

“They played us off the back tips, and the wind was pumping. We had a three to four club wind almost all day and it was blowing especially hard coming in. For the most part, I managed to keep the ball in play. My putting was solid and my short game, too.

“I felt there was a certain expectation to win at my home course and it’s good to know that I could perform under that kind of self-imposed pressure. I was a little disappointed with the two bogeys down the straight, especially the lip-out at 17, but it’s more important to focus on win.

“Every victory, every top five finish feeds the confidence and that is what I am playing for this year. I want to be in contention every week. I have to get my game to a really competitive level to compete on the Sunshine Tour next year.”
