Mowat hits front at weather-hit IGT Race to Q-School
BEDFORDVIEW, 11 December 2013 – Top South African amateur has set himself up for a rare chance at an IGT Tour Race to Q-School two-step by taking control of the weather hit final in the 12-tournament series at Glendower Golf Club.
The 21-year-old from Modderfontein Golf Club took advantage of a rare break in the wet weather that has been terrorizing Gauteng and reeled in five birdies and an eagle against three bogeys for a four-under-par 68.
The country’s eighth ranked amateur set the clubhouse target at six-under-par 138, but once again Lean Boezaarts is proving to be a tough adversary.
Boezaarts, who lost to Mowat at the IGT Race to Q-School at CRM Golf Club a month ago, carded a 69 to finish just one shot off the pace alongside GFG Academy student, James Pearson, who closed with a 71 just before rain spoiled the day.
Play was suspended for forty minutes at 15h30, but the afternoon field was called in again at 17h30 when lightning coloured the skies over Bedfordview. Play was suspended and eventually called off due to impending darkness and more rain.
Fifteen players will have to return on Thursday morning to complete the second round and the final round will tee off as soon as the cut is made.
