TSHWANE, 3 November 2015 – Just a week after claiming a fourth IGT Tour victory this season, Drew Roelofsz is hunting his fifth podium on the country’s premier development Tour after taking the 36-hole lead in the fifth Race to Q-School, presented by the Pro Squad Academy.

The 23-year-old Edenvale golfer reeled in five birdies and an eagle in windy conditions at Centurion Country Club for a tidy six-under-par 66 to roar four strokes clear of the chasing pack.

Jacques de Villiers carded a 72 to start the final round in second, while Terence Boardman registered a 67, Owen Grobler returned a 68 and Siphiwe Siphayi shot a 69 to finish at three under with NJ Arnoldi and Dean O’Riley, who returned respective rounds of 71 and 70.

Roelofsz made a quick start with a birdie at 11, but lost the advantage with his only bogey at the par-five 12th.

“It was nice to box a six metre putt at 11 to get the momentum going, but frankly, I wasn’t surprised by the bogey at 12,” Roelofsz said.

“That hole hates me. I tried to avoid the trees in the first round and hit a three-wood straight into the trees. Today I hit a three-iron and finished in a fairway bunker. Maybe tomorrow I’ll make an eagle and have my revenge.”

Roelofsz got back on track with a birdie at 14 and drained an eagle putt at the par-five 15th.

“The wind was really pumping all day,” Roelofsz said.

“We played in a two-club, sometimes two-and-a-half club wind and I didn’t think an eagle was in the cards. I hit driver off the deck and had 200 metres left to the pin. I took three-iron, hit it to eight meters and made the putt.

“I birdied one and seven on the back nine, but I left a few out there. I missed a six-footer for birdie at six and left a 15 meter putt a ball short at eighth. I hit it in the water at nine, but scrambled really well to save par.

“That’s key for me right now. With Qualifying School coming up next month, it’s really important for me to try and hit fairways and greens and to keep the card as clean as possible.”

Overnight leader Ross Sinclair shot 75 to slip to two under, alongside Bryn Flanagan, who doubled up with 71s and TJ Bekker, who aced the par-three eighth on his way to a 71.
