JOHANNESBURG, 29 April 2015 – His putter is working, he knows the course like the back of his hand and after two solid rounds at Eagle Canyon, Bryandrew Roelofsz in the driver’s seat at the BDGA Academy Classic on Wednesday.

So, could the stars finally align for Roelofsz?

After closing the door on a tough six months, he has his head back in the game and believes a second IGT Tour victory is beckoning.

The 22-year-old Edenvale professional mixed an eagle and six birdies with three bogeys for a five under 67 and grabbed the lead at 11-under-par 133.

He leads by one from Conway Kunneke, who signed for a 66 and finished two clear of Bryn Flanagan, who notched four birdies over the last five holes for a sizzling 65.

Roelofsz is quietly confident, but remains realistic in his expectation

“To be honest, I dealt with some heavy personal issues in the last six months, but I have my stuff together and I’m just really enjoying the moment,” he said.

“A year ago, the three-putts and the missed opportunities would have stressed me out, but now I just appreciate the fact that I’m competing again.”

He might have taken six months off, but it hasn’t taken Roelofsz long to get the rust off.

The Edenvale golfer tied for fourth in his first start back at the RAW Golf School Classic at Houghton Golf Club a fortnight ago, and followed with tie for 12th at Centurion Country Club in last week’s Pro Squad Classic.

The blustery gale didn’t bother Roelofsz too much, and he drew on his local course knowledge to get his nose in front.

“My dad Bryan ran the driving range here until December last year and I was a member for two years,” the Golfspecialist player said.

“The wind was really pumping, but I knew where and when to play it safe. It was quite a challenge hitting into the wind. I usually hit a three-iron around 240 meters, but I creamed one perfectly down the middle into the wind today and I couldn’t fly it further than 200 meters.

“I had two three-putts from two feet that irritated me a little, but you can’t cry over spilt milk. I’m striking the ball really well and I feel pretty confident about the final round.

“The way I see it, if it doesn’t happen for me, it’s bound to happen further down the line. I’m not going to have a sleepless night about it. The main thing right now is that the game feels really good, I feel great, I’m in contention and I just want to make the most of it.”
