BOKSBURG, 11 May 2015 – Just a fortnight after he broke a 16-month title-drought in the BDGA Academy Classic, Bryandrew Roelofsz laid the groundwork for back-to-back victories with a superb first round performance in the IGT Tour’s Autumn Swing at ERMP Golf Club.

Roelofsz, who is coached by his father Bryan from GolfSpecialist, has toiled non-stop since his win at Eagle Canyon Golf Estate and the dividends paid off with a solid three stroke lead.

The 23-year-old Edenvale golfer opened with a blistering eight-under-par 64 on Monday to finish well clear of GFG Academy player Hennie du Plessis and five ahead of amateur Hilton Hughes.

IGT Tour winner Christiaan Bezuidenhout from the Wanna be a Champion Academy leads half-a-dozen players tied at two under.

After six months away from the game, Roelofsz was understandably pleased to be in contention in successive starts.

“After the break, it’s fantastic to compete again,” he said. “I took a day to enjoy the victory at Eagle Canyon, but then it was back to the grinding stone.”
The Ekurhuleni professional reeled in five birdies on the front nine and could even afford a bogey at the par-four 12th after going six under through 10 holes.

He countered with a birdie at the par-five 13th and notched another pair of gains at 15 and 16 before playing the last two holes to par.

“I played great and did everything right, but I left at least three birdies out there,” Roelofsz said.

“I hit solid putts; most went in, but I left two short putts at the ninth and 11th short. The 12th was playing into the wind, so I took a soft six-iron in. It was too much club; I should have gone with a seven-iron.

“It is only one round but I am really pleased, it’s a good start. It’s been a long while since I have done that and hopefully things will start to come back.

“I am working with hard with my dad on my game. We have not made any changes to my game, we are just working on playing like I know I can play and concentrate on improving all the time.”

No-one likes to submit a card with double bogeys, but Brendan Blake forgot all about his troubles at the third and 12th after acing the par-three 14th. The amateur signed off with a 77 to tie for 41st.
