TSHWANE, 13 August 2015 – Centurion golfer Jacques Kruyswijk stretched a two shot overnight lead to an imposing six stroke victory in the CA Academy Classic at Wingate Park Country Club on Thursday.

The 22-year-old, who scaled to the top of the leaderboard in the second round, produced a short game masterclass in the final round for six-under-par 66 and signed off with a winning total of 16-under-par 200.

The victory marked a seventh podium finish for Kruyswijk on the country’s premier development Tour and came on the back of his start-to-finish win in the Wanna Be A Champion Classic in July.

Tshwane amateur Philip Kruse carded a 67 to finish a distant second on 10 under.

First round leader Coert Groenewald closed with a 71 to finish at nine under, while two-time Sunshine Tour winner and IGT Tour graduate Danie van Tonder took fourth on eight under with a 68.

Kruyswijk’s total dominance at Wingate was stamped in the most emphatic fashion in the final round. He backed up a birdie-birdie start with birdie number three at the par-four six, denying the chasing pack not the faintest glimmer of hope.

While reducing his rivals to battle it out for second place, Kruyswijk negated a lone drop at 12 with birdies at 10, 11, 13 and 15.

As a result of this latest triumph, Kruyswijk jumped to fifth in the IGT Tour Money Leaders rankings.

“I came out here to win this week, so I am thrilled with the result,” Kruyswijk said.

“I had some really great form going into the Sun City Challenge last week, but I shot the two worst rounds of my season at Sun City.

“I was absolutely shocked, because I’ve worked really hard with Kyle Phielan, the Tuks Golf head coach at Centurion Country Club. “I felt like my game was at its peak and to shoot rounds like that was devastating.

“It was really important to me to get back on the proverbial horse as quickly as possible and to get my confidence back as quickly as possible.

“It was a real mental breakthrough for me, because I accomplished what I set out to do. I proved to myself that Sun City was just a glitch. Now I’m itching to get to KwaZulu-Natal to see what I can do in the next three events.
